Mercato Vecchio Court & Scavi Scaligeri

From Piazza dei Signori, you can reach this wonderful courtyard passing through an arch on the right.

The “Palazzo della Ragione” and its “Scala della Ragione” (Reason stairs) now grace the “Cortile del Mercato Vecchio” or old market square and it dates back to the 15th century. This great gothic stair-case was originally covered. Its name is derived from the fact that it held up to law-courts situated here two centuries ago.

In this courtyard you can see the Scaligeri Excavations: the underground of Verona doesn’t hide only roman rests, but also Scaligeri ones. The archaeological route is the exposition centre of “Centro Internazionale di Fotografia Scavi Scaligeri”.

Address: Cortile del Mercato Vecchio, 37121 Verona.
