Porta Leona

It might have been similar to Porta Borsari featuring an elegant Loggia.

This gate is one of the Verona’s oldest Roman remains as it bears an important inscription dating back to 49 A.D. and which states the magistrates “probaverunt”, that is “tested” the walls, gates and servers of Verona. The inscription therefore testifies to the very birth of the Roman city.

The archaeological site nearby reveals the foundations of the look-out towers, remains of the walls and of the original paving-stones of the Roman road.

You can see it only from outside.
