Porta San Zeno

This gateway was built to protect Verona from Lombard attack. In fact, once you’ve passed  through the gate today, you can take the state highway to Brescia and Lake Garda.

It was built in 1542, and it was designed by the famous architect Michele Sanmicheli.

Today is the base of “Comitato del Bancanal del Gnoco”, a Carnaval Committee which promotes the famous veronese dish “gnocco” and the Carnaval Festivals.
