Fort Gisella

The fort started working in 1862, with 20 cannons to defend the street that link Verona to Mantova.

The main part of the structure is the central one, a “C” form building which hosted the soldiers (400-600 men).

The building, unused during the Risorgimento period, maintained its military assignment with the III Independence War and the National Unity (1866).

In 1998 the fort was entrusted to the association “Santa Lucia”, that repaired and cleaned it. Today is managed by the “Parrocchia di Santa Lucia Extra” and allows visitors to enter in the internal park.

It’s possible to have guided tours to know historical, architectonical and natural aspects of the complex.
