Villas and mansions
After the rule of Della Scala Family, the period of peace and prosperity under Venetian domination resulted in the erection of splendid marble villas and noble country-houses towards the beginning of the 16th century.
The tradition of the typical villa of the Veneto dates back to the 1400's, when these manors were the hub of the area's agriculture. They later became country-houses where the leisured classes simply enjoyed the pleasures of the country-side.
The genius of Andrea Palladio turned these villas into elegant masterpieces of classical architecture, a style which was only beginning to emerge in the Middle ages, and which reached its zenith with the Venetian villa.
These villas are placed in splendid settings and are surrounded by bush gardens and parks. They bear the coats-of-arms of their previous owners, some of whose descendants are still living there today.
