Sommacampagna is located in the North-Western area of Verona.

It was settled around the Romanic-Italic temple dedicated to the goddess Leituria (Diana). From the top of the hills, it's possible to overlook e very wide area. For this reason, military settlements were built here, and later in time, many beautiful villas. The strategic location was dramatically pointed out during Risorgimento battles, when Austrian and Savoy soldiers fought between Sommacampagna and Custoza.

The name probably means "Highest Land", from the Latin "Summa Campania".
